Annexation of Hawaii

The cartoon above is showing that the annexation of Hawaii was not a fair fight. It shows America hogging Hawaii and not sharing it with any of the other countries and was not mindful of Hawaii's opinion on it. The cartoonist's message was that America acted like they were  the most powerful and all mighty. this is because Uncle Sam is holding back the other countries and mindlessly stabbing Hawaii with the fork. I understand how some people may see it as America trying to expand in a peaceful way. Uncle Sam also looks kind and not menacing. The cartoonist uses symbolism to add effectiveness. Uncle Sam and the other men are representing countries that were eager to gain Hawaii and the fork represents American imperialism. The author also uses analogies because the fork and the Hawaiian meal are to American influence and the actual territory itself. The cartoon supports my position because I support Anti-Imperialism. The cartoon shows that America does not worry about what other countries or Hawaii had to say and was overly powerful.
