Open Door Policy

The issue in this political cartoon is that China had no say in who how the countries would split up the territory. It shows the Chinese man getting angry at the other countries and the way they are splitting up the country. The cartoonists message is that the Open Door Policy was not a civil way to treat a country. It shows no one paying attention to what China had to say and he is being completely ignored. I see how other people may think that this was just a form of imperialism and China was one of the countries victims. As it shows, many of the countries were very powerful and influential countries such as Germany. The cartoonists uses symbolism because the men and women sitting around the table are representing powerful countries that wanted a piece of China and the pizza represents China being chopped up and allotted to all the nations. The author also uses labeling because on the pizza it reads Chinese or China to show what the countries were dividing. This political cartoon supports my position on imperialism because I am against it. It shows that Imperialism was cruel and unfair to many countries.
