Purchase of Alaska

In this cartoon the issue is that Alaska has no value and was a waste of American money. The cartoon shows a man asking a mindless polar bear to vote in the election. The cartoonists message is that Alaska should never have been admitted as a state. In the cartoon it shows Alaska as having no purpose. I understand how some people may have thought that this portrayed Alaska as a friendly fluffy polar bear because he is not attacking the person in the cartoon, The author uses labeling to show that he is taking votes such as the stand in the background that says "VOTE". He also uses symbolism because the polar bear is representing Alaska's environment as well as people and population. I agree with this political cartoon because I do not believe that American Imperialism was a positive chain of events. The cartoon shows it as a total waste of time and money.
